Breitling made their first venture into the world of dive watches in 1957 with the debut of the Superocean. In honor of the model’s impressive 50th anniversary in 2007, they introduced the Superocean Heritage line. The collection may be a newer addition to the brand. However, it embodies their rich history in the production of professional dive watches.

The Superocean Heritage line combines the spirit of early dive watches from the 1950s with modern technological advancements. The result is a handsome and practical collection of timepieces. Vintage inspired elements, like the brand’s 1950s logo, give the watch a distinctly retro feel. Yet the clean, classic, and minimalist aesthetic is contrasted by the watch’s more contemporary size and extensive technical capabilities. All in all, these models are a perfect option for everyday wear or for professional divers.

Each Superocean Heritage model features a unidirectional rotating bezel and screw-down crown reinforced with two gaskets. These important elements give the watch water resistance up to 200 meters. In addition, the Superocean Heritage is available in a range of size options, from 38mm to a heftier, oversized 46mm. The watches in the collection also house a COSC certified chronometer movement.

Upon the 60th anniversary of the original Superocean, Breitling debuted another new variation of the model. In 2017, they launched the Superocean Heritage II. This young collection has quickly garnered attention from fans of both the original Superocean and the Superocean Heritage.

The most significant update to the Superocean II is the movement. Here, Breitling has collaborated with fellow powerhouse watchmaker Tudor. In the Superocean Heritage II, they’ve used a modified version of their MT5612 automatic movement, first introduced in the Pelagos. The result is the Breitling caliber B20, boasting a 70-hour power reserve. Another notable difference is more modern size options, from 42mm to 46mm.

A year after the introduction of the Superocean Heritage II, Breitling added two new iterations. The first is a chronograph version, the B01 Chronograph 44. As the name suggests, the model gets an upgrade in the form of the brand’s in-house caliber Breitling 01. Later in 2018, Breitling released a collaborative variation of the Superocean Heritage II with the sustainable clothing company Outerknown. Eleven-time world surfing champion Kelly Slater founded the company, making it a perfect partnership for the dive watch.

Breitling may be most widely known for their pilot watches, like the Chronomat or the iconic Navitimer. However, the Superocean line, from the original model to the Heritage I and II, illustrates their proficiency in the world of dive watches.
